Anton Grassl was born in Munich. He studied stage design and photography in Germany and received an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1983.
With experience as an artist and craftsman, Anton builds his photographs with regard to tactile as well as visual elements. This unique background creates the foundation for his lively and descriptive images of architecture. Based in Boston, Grassl works on location in the US and in Europe.
He was the recipient of a RISD Fellowship in 1983, Massachusetts Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in 1991, a National Endowment grant in 1992 and Graham Foundation Fellowship in 1995.
